The Beduin's Gazelle

Image
❤ This story makes it way around the grief community, take from it what you will and pass it on ❤ In this story, a man finds his young son dead. To soften the news for his wife He wraps his son in a cloak and tells his wife  he has brought home a gazelle from the Hunt. To cook it, he asked his wife to borrow a pot from a home that has never known sorrow. She goes door to door in her community asking for a pot. But everyone shares a story of great loss that has come to their family. The wife returns home empty handed saying "There are no pots that have not cooked a meal of sorrow." The man opens his cloak revealing his son and says, "it is our turn to cook meals of sorrow, for this is my gazelle."

Celebrating Heavenly Birthdays

Image
Birthdays are hard. Maybe even harder than death anniversaries. Just because our children are no longer here with us, doesn't mean we get to stop celebrating. I've found it way more hurtful then helpful, when others have chosen to ignore my Daughter's Birthday. It feels like the beginning of people starting to forget about Nyx and the love she shared. It's a lack of acknowledgement of her existence, and that feels so extremely painful. So above, I put together a few ways, relatives and friends can help support you on this Beautiful Day.

How can I help?

If we’re going to get better at supporting each other, if we’re going to get what we all want—to love and be loved—we need to talk about what isn’t working, and we need to talk about what really helps." Megan Devine Meal Train - A meal train is super helpful, supportive and organized. When Nyx passed away, one of my cousins was kind enough to get one started. For two weeks, there was a hot meal delivered to us. The majority of them, would just drop it off on the doorstep and text me. Which was super convenient. In early grief, you're disheveled, swollen and exhausted. Sometimes the last thing we want to be faced with, is company.  Grief Groceries - I'm talking frozen pizzas, frozen lasagna, ice cream, breakfast muffins, Oreo cookies, pre-sliced fruit, cases of water (they're going to be dehydrated), hell maybe even a gallon of milk too. Comfort foods, items that are quick to warm up. Sometimes when we feel manic, we feel the need to down a whole sleeve of cookies or ...

Safe Sleep Awareness

Image
Did you know that there are over 50 ways to practice safe sleep?  I want to stress that no Parent, Grandparent, or Guardian is perfect. As Parents, we think we are supposed to be able to control everything, even when clearly, we can't. Accidents happen, that's true - but our mission is to help make them preventable . We're spreading knowledge. Remember, babies learn by repetition. So, this will take time. We know you're trying you're best, Baby certainly knows you're trying you're best. Below are some examples of what a Safe Sleep Environment might look like. I am also linking the NICHD Safe to Sleep link. Updated as of August 2023 💜 Place babies on their backs to sleep and for naps 💙 Use a safe sleep surface only for naps. Surface must be firm (Crib ONLY)  💜 Share a room with your baby for the first 6 months  💙 Offer baby a pacifier during naps and nighttime 💜 Avoid letting baby overheat (NO COVERS) 💙 Avoid products that go against safe sleep (bopp...

Nyx Abad

Image
Nyx Hesper Abad was born December 19th, 2022 in Gilbert, Arizona. She is a little sister and was always curious about what her big brother, Lux was doing. In Nyx's short life, she loved to visit the splash pad with big brother at the park in Blythe, Ca. Nyx enjoyed walks down 11th Ave in her stroller, and watching Dad and Lux feed the horses. She loved spending time with her Nana & Tata, who enjoyed bathing and dressing her up for church. She never seemed to fuss when Lux would splash her with water, in fact she would last longer in the pool then big brother! Nyx even had a sleepover with Nana and Tata while Mom & Dad were making the move from Arizona to California! How Fun! She got to taste fruit, purees, and rice cereal. Nyx was 3 days shy of 5 months, but it was and still is the best 5 months of our  lives. Nyx experienced so much love. Our sweet girl.    On May 16th, our life turned upside down. Nyx was swaddled in her favorite blanket and was put down ...
